Spent $12 on a 1960s sci-fi paperback with a torn cover at a library sale
The blurb sounded cheesy but I grabbed it anyway, and it turned out to be this wild story about a guy who invents a machine that lets you smell colors - ended up being one of the most creative things I've read all year. Now I'm kicking myself for not buying the other three books that guy donated, since the author apparently wrote a whole series that's totally out of print. Has anyone else found a gem from a dusty box that turned out to be part of a bigger collection you missed?

Twelve bucks for a torn cover book that turns out to be a hidden gem, that's a steal honestly. I found a beat-up copy of "The Silent World of Nicholas Quinn" at a thrift store for like three dollars (it had some kid's crayon scribbles on the back cover), and it turned out to be the third book in a series of seven. The worst part is, I went back the next day and the rest of the box was already gone, so now I have this orphaned third book that makes zero sense without the others. There's gotta be some weird online detective work you can do to track down the rest of that series, maybe on eBay or a dedicated sci-fi forum.
