Grabbed a 50 cent paperback at a church sale last Saturday and it turned into a whole rabbit hole

It was this dusty old sci-fi novel from 1974 called "The Listeners" by some author I'd never heard of, and I figured for spare change why not. I started reading it that night and could not put it down, the whole premise about first contact with aliens through a listening station felt so ahead of its time. Has anyone else stumbled on a random thrift store find that ended up being way better than you expected?

Man, that exact book got me too. Found a beat up copy at a library sale and it legit changed how I look at sci-fi, still think about that ending sometimes.

Still think about that ending sometimes" is exactly what my buddy Mike said when he brought it up last week. He found a copy in a break room at work and read it during lunch breaks, said it messed with his head for days. The guy's usually all about sports highlights but he wouldn't shut up about that book for a solid month.
