Found a first edition for $3 at a library sale in Tulsa last Tuesday.

I was just browsing the nonfiction section and spotted this old gardening book with a faded cover. Turned out it was signed by the author and had a handwritten note from 1972 tucked inside. Anyone else ever find something way more valuable than the price tag?

That's really cool, glad it found someone who gets it.

I mean the handwritten note from 1972 is probably worth more than the book itself, honestly. People get so focused on first editions and signatures but they sleep on the personal stuff inside. I once found a copy of a cookbook with a full grocery list from the 50s written on the inside cover and it sold for way more than the book alone would have. That little piece of someone's life adds a whole layer of history you can't fake. Maybe it's just me but I'd rather have that note than any autograph.
