My taping knife snapped mid-scoop and I switched to stainless

Cheap carbon blade folded on me doing a flat patch Tuesday in Phoenix. Picked up a stainless Marshaltown 8 inch and now I get why guys pay triple.

But how long did the carbon blade actually last you before it folded? I've heard guys say they break in a week if you hit a screw or something hard, others get months out of them. Seems like the carbon ones are hit or miss with the heat treatment or whatever. I'm wondering if the quality control is just bad on those cheaper ones or if the stainless really is that much tougher for the money. Did you notice any difference in how the mud felt on the stainless right away, or was it just the durability that sold you?

Nah, I'd trust a carbon blade's edge over stainless any day, even if it chips faster.
