Drywall seams splitting in below-grade rooms puzzles me
I finished a basement last fall, and now the ceiling joints are all cracked. I followed standard procedure with tape and compound. The room has good climate control, so I don't think it's temperature swings. Maybe the foundation settles more than I accounted for. I'm curious if others have fixed this for good. What extra steps do you take for basement installs?

What kind of tape did you end up using? Honestly, my own basement fix looked so bad I told people it was abstract art. Tbh, using mesh tape over paper made a big difference for me.

Did the mesh tape make my patch look like modern art too?

My buddy tried mesh tape on his ceiling patch last year. The whole section fell down two days later, just crashed onto his sofa. He went back to paper tape after that.
