A talk with my dad about taping knives made me change my mind

He was helping me clean up after a job in Portland, and he picked up my 6-inch knife. He said, 'You know, you can do 90% of a finish with just this and a 12-inch, all the other sizes are just for show.' I've always had a full set from 3 to 14 inches. But last Thursday, I tried it his way on a small repair, and the work went faster and looked just as good. Has anyone else cut down their knife set and been happy with it?

Ever notice how we collect way more tools than we actually need? Your story about the knives totally reminds me of that. It's like we think having every option will make us better, but really it just slows us down.

That one knife story from @lily_ramirez4 really got me thinking. I used to be the kind of person who'd buy every new tool or gadget that came out for painting, thinking it would make my crew faster. But honestly, half of them just sat in the truck and never got used proper. Then I watched this old timer on a job one time finish a whole wall with just a 4 inch brush and a roller, no fancy gear at all. That changed my mind completely. Now I keep it simple with the basics that actually work, and it speeds things up way more than having a bunch of options I never touch.
