That pump seal replacement ate my whole Saturday
I had a 12 inch dredge pump start leaking bad on Thursday morning. Figured I'd swap the seal and be back running by noon. Six hours later I was still fighting with the old seal that had basically fused itself to the shaft. Ended up having to cut it off with a grinder and then clean the shaft with sandpaper for another hour. Has anyone else had a seal job turn into a full day project?

Ha! Nothing like a "quick seal swap" to remind you that time is just a suggestion. Sounds like that pump was in a committed relationship with that old seal. But hey, at least you've got a shiny clean shaft now, right?

Man, tell me about it. I swear, every time I hear "quick" in a garage I know it's gonna be at least a full afternoon. Sounds like that seal was practically welded on there from pure stubbornness. But hey, you're right, a clean shaft is a nice silver lining. I mean, at least now you know exactly what you're working with under there, right?
