PSA: I spent $1,200 on a new sonar unit and it's a total game changer
I was running blind in some muddy water near Mobile last month, just guessing at the bottom. The new unit shows the bottom hardness and any big junk clear as day. My partner says it's a waste of money and we should just dredge the old way. I say it saves us time and wear on the cutter head. Who else has made a big gear buy that split the crew?

New gear always causes a fight. The old way feels safe, but it can hold you back. Your partner is wrong to call it a waste. Saving time and wear on the cutter head pays for itself. Good gear is an investment in the work, not a cost.

@the_angela makes a solid point about the cutter head wear. How many hours are you actually saving per week with that bottom hardness read? My old foreman always said if you can't see it you're just churning up mud and praying. The GPS fight your buddy had sounds like it went the same way.
