Old school buckets vs. modern lightweight - no contest on my dredge last season

Ran my old steel bucket for years until I swapped to a composite one on the Mississippi last summer. The weight difference saved my back and let me run an extra hour per shift without killing my arms. Anyone else made the switch and noticed a big change?

Yeah, tell that to my back after hauling a steel bucket up a muddy riverbank... It's like comparing a brick to a paperweight, except the paperweight doesn't wreck your shoulders for days. Old-timers mean well, but sometimes they just haven't fully retired their stubborn streak along with their gear.

Honestly, I was talking to an old-timer up on Lake Michigan last fall who swore by his steel bucket for like 20 years. He finally swapped to a composite one after a shoulder surgery and said it was night and day. He told me he could run his rig for almost two hours longer without feeling worn out. That got me thinking about trying one myself, even though I always figured the steel was tougher for the price.
