My dredge pump belt fix that saved a whole shift in Galveston
The belt kept slipping every 20 minutes on this old dredge in Galveston and I was about to toss my radio in the channel. I tried tightening it twice, then I just jammed a rubber hose chunk between the tensioner and frame as a shim. It held all day. Has anyone else done a janky field fix like that, or did I just get lucky?

That shim trick buys you time but watch the belt for heat buildup after a few hours. I've done similar with a cut-up conveyor belt scrap on a pump in Louisiana, worked fine for a full day then the rubber started chunking out. Next time try wrapping the tensioner arm in a few layers of duct tape first, then jam the hose over it. Gives you a little give without the hard metal-on-metal pound. Belt will still ride dirty but at least it won't eat into the frame.
