I was running my suction line too close to the bank for years

I was working on a channel job near Mobile and my pump kept losing prime every couple hours, which was driving me nuts. The foreman finally walked over, pointed at the line, and said 'You're pulling in half the shoreline with that angle, kid'. Has anyone else had a similar wake-up call about line placement?

Yeah, "pulling in half the shoreline" is the perfect way to put it. You get that vortex action and start sucking air and debris. I learned to keep my suction line as straight out from the pump as the setup allows, even if it means adding another length of hose. That shallow angle toward the bank is a prime killer every time.

Prime killer" is right, @rivershah, I used to cut corners but your hose tip actually makes sense now.

Same here, that angle toward the bank will wreck your prime every single time.
