Chat with a retired guy at the marina got me thinking about anchor lines

I was fueling up the work skiff in Port Angeles last week and got talking to this old guy who used to run a bucket dredge. He asked what we use for our main anchor line. When I said 'standard 1.5 inch nylon', he just shook his head and said, 'Kid, on a moving bottom, that stuff stretches too much and you'll walk all day.' He swore by a wire core leader for the first 50 feet. It never crossed my mind before. Anyone running a similar setup on a cutter suction rig?
