Three years ago at the Denver shop, my boss insisted we stick with manual dimensioning. Last month, the new project manager pushed for full BIM on a 200-unit complex. Which side are you on?

Manual for small stuff, but you can't fight BIM on a project that size.

My buddy's firm tried to go manual on a big apartment job like that. They got two months in and the plumbing sub's drawings were a total mess, clashing with the HVAC everywhere. Cost them a fortune in rework, just because someone was stubborn about the old way.

Yeah "drawnigs were a total mess" is putting it lightly... that's exactly the kind of nightmare I've seen too. We had a similar thing happen on a mixed-use project a few years back, plumber and electrician kept stepping on each other's lines. What worked for us was getting everyone in a room with the BIM model on a big screen, just going floor by floor and marking up changes together. It wasn't perfect but it cut the rework way down because we caught the clashes before anyone touched a pipe. Sometimes a little coordination upfront saves a whole lot of headache later.
