That comment from a senior drafter in Nashville made me rethink my layer naming

I used to just use generic names like "walls" and "electrical" for everything. Then this old-timer named Dave looked over my shoulder at a project in Nashville and said "you'll never find anything when you come back to this in 6 months." Now I name every layer with the specific room and trade, like "Rm101-North-Wall-ELEC" instead of just "electrical." Anyone else gotten a simple tip that completely changed how you organize your CAD files?

Does that naming system hold up when you have a wall that spans three rooms and both trades have stuff on it though? Seems like you'd end up with a mess trying to figure out which layer the drywall return on the south side of Rm101 really belongs to.

Ha, someone at the conference last week said this exact thing causes most of their change orders.

You're overthinking this way too hard.
