Pro tip: I used to hand-draw every single detail on my architectural plans, but after a project in Austin took 80 hours, I switched to a custom AutoCAD block library.

What's your go-to time-saving trick when a deadline is tight?

Honestly thought templates were a crutch for lazy work. Then a brutal deadline showed me they're just smart prep. Now my first step is always checking the template folder.

Templates can still make your work feel generic though, even if they save time. That brutal deadline might force you into a cookie-cutter solution you can't fix later. Sometimes starting from a blank page pushes you to find a better, more original way to solve the problem.

Templates don't automatically make things generic. That's on the person using them. I've seen people take a basic block library and turn out some of the most creative work in the office because they knew how to mix and match and modify on the fly. Starting from a blank page every time just burns clock. A smart template setup with layer standards and common blocks actually frees you up to solve the real design problems instead of redrawing door swings for the tenth time that week.
