My scale said +6 lbs after a single day of working on a new set of house plans
I was at my drafting table last Tuesday, finishing up some electrical layouts for a small addition. Stood up to grab coffee and stepped on the scale. It said I gained 6 pounds since the day before! Panicked for a solid minute until I realized I had 3 empty coffee mugs, a half-eaten sandwich, and my heavy aluminum T-square all still sitting on my lap. Has anyone else had a false alarm like that from stuff piled on while you work?

The thing is, your brain just latches onto that number and runs with it before your common sense catches up. I've noticed this happens with all kinds of measurements in life, not just weight. Like when you're cooking and you taste a spoonful of sauce and think it's ruined, but you just hadn't stirred it enough. Numbers and readings feel so concrete even when the context is completely screwy. I bet half the panic we feel comes from trusting the tool more than our own gut.

That aluminum T-square would definitely throw the reading off, scales can't tell the difference between you and your drafting tools.
