I finally figured out a way to stop my floor plan layers from getting so messy in AutoCAD. It's so simple I'm kind of mad I didn't try it sooner.

That's funny, my layers are still a total mess.

Honestly, I've come to love a messy layer stack. It feels like a real workspace to me, where everything I need is right there even if it looks chaotic. A perfectly named and grouped set of layers just makes me nervous to touch anything. My best work usually happens when I stop worrying about the mess and just dig in.

grayw32 said they love a messy layer stack and that's great for them, but my layers are a hot dumpster fire that even I can't navigate. I swear half my layers are named things like "Layer 1" or "copy of layer 3 final final" and I spend more time hunting for stuff than actually drawing. I tried the "just dig in" approach and ended up deleting half the floor plan because I couldn't tell which layer was which. Honestly, my layers are so bad I'm probably the reason AutoCAD added that purge command. Good for you for finding a system that works, but my system is pure chaos and I'm just along for the ride.
