Hot take: that $40 torpedo level from the hardware store is just as good as the $150 Stabila

I was helping frame a deck last summer and dropped my expensive level off the ladder, cracked the vial. Grabbed a cheap replacement out of desperation and honestly couldn't tell the difference on the final check. Anyone else think brand loyalty on levels is mostly just hype?

Dropped my cheap level three times last week and it still works better than my pride does.

Dropped my expensive Stabila off a scaffolding plank two years ago and the vial cracked like an egg. The replacement from Harbor Freight (under $20) has held up through three more jobs and two more drops. @emma_hart is right, cheap levels have gotten way better than people want to admit. The whole "you get what you pay for" thing falls apart when the expensive one breaks just as fast. I'll take a $40 level I can replace ten times before I hit that Stabila price.
