Everyone says to start a floor plan with the exterior walls, but I tried the opposite.
I was stuck on a tight residential plot in Denver last month. The client wanted three bedrooms but the lot shape was weird. Instead of drawing the outside first, I placed the rooms where they made sense for light and flow. Then I wrapped the walls around them like a puzzle. It saved me two revisions and the client loved the layout. Has anyone else tried working from the inside out on a tricky site?

You saved two whole revisions doing that?

Let the rooms tell you where the walls go"? That's wild.

Totally get that. Had a corner lot in Seattle where the inside-out method was the only thing that worked. Sometimes you gotta let the rooms tell you where the walls go.
