Unpopular opinion: I think patching drywall with mesh tape is a total waste of time
Spent 3 hours fixing a crack in my hallway last month only to have it bubble up again - my buddy who does this for a living told me paper tape is way better for corners. Has anyone else had mesh tape fail on them like that?

Oh man, mesh tape is the worst. I tried using it to fix a crack in my daughter's bedroom ceiling and it just peeled right off after a week. My neighbor who flips houses told me to use paper tape with joint compound instead and it's been fine for two years now. Paper tape is just way more forgiving if you don't get the mud mix perfect.
