The day I stopped using a paint can opener and switched to a screwdriver
For like 10 years I always used one of those cheap metal paint can openers you get free at the store. But last Saturday I was painting my garage in Austin and the opener bent on the third can of Behr. Grabbed a flathead screwdriver out of frustration and wow, it pries the lid off way easier and doesn't bend. Has anyone else ditched the fancy tools for just a regular screwdriver?

Agree completely, now I just grab whatever flathead is closest and never look back.

Watched my buddy Tom try to open a gallon of exterior paint with a screwdriver last summer. He was using this tiny little eyeglass repair screwdriver and it snapped in half on the first try. Dude just shrugged, went back in his toolbox, and grabbed a regular sized flathead. Popped the lid off in about two seconds flat. He still laughs about the bent screwdriver stuck in the lid.

Man that story about the eyeglass screwdriver is wild! I can just picture some guy standing there with a tiny little screwdriver trying to wrestle a paint can lid off like it's a watch battery. You gotta have the right tool for the job, and an eyeglass screwdriver ain't it. Makes me think how many people have tried that and ended up with a broken tool and a bloody knuckle. Did he at least get the lid off with the second screwdriver or did he give up and go buy a new opener?
