The 6 inch drywall patch that ate my whole Saturday

I had a small hole from a doorknob impact, figured I'd slap a patch on it in like 30 minutes max lol. Ended up spending 4 hours fighting with mesh tape that kept bubbling and mud that refused to set right. Has anyone else had a simple drywall fix turn into an all day project for no reason?

Man that's the drywall tax. One tiny hole and suddenly you're living in a dust cloud all day.

Had a buddy try to fix a tiny nail pop last weekend. He thought it would take ten minutes and ended up spreading joint compound across his whole living room wall. @richard_ramirez, that dust cloud hit his place so bad his wife made him sleep on the couch for two days. He said the vacuum filter was caked solid and he had to wash his bedsheets twice. Now he just calls a handyman for any hole bigger than a thumbtack. Learned that lesson the hard way.
