My neighbor changed my mind about reusing old drywall screws

I've always tossed used drywall screws straight in the scrap bin, figured they were stripped or too soft to trust again. Then my neighbor Frank, who's been framing houses for 20 years, watched me throw out a handful and just laughed. He said, 'You're throwing away 50 cents a pound, but that screw still holds a sheet up fine if the head ain't chewed.' I tested a few on a patch job in my garage last Saturday, ran them into fresh studs, and they bit just as good as new ones. Anyone else out there reusing screws from tear-outs, or am I the last one to catch on?
