Finally gave in and tried expanding foam for a gap around my kitchen sink

I was sure it would just make a mess and never set right but after that gap kept collecting crumbs for 6 months I grabbed a can from Lowes for $8. Did it cleanly in under 10 minutes and now nothing falls down there anymore. Has anyone else had expanding foam work way better than they expected for sealing weird gaps?

Made sure the gap was bone dry first and trimmed the excess with a utility knife after it cured.

My buddy tried this last summer and thought he let the gap dry enough but ended up sealing in some moisture anyway. The caulk started peeling like 3 months later, it was a total mess. He trimmed his excess with a utility knife too but said the blade got all gummed up from not waiting long enough. I remember him complaining about it at our cookout, holding up a chunk of the failed sealant like a trophy.
