Appreciation post: the retired electrician who fixed my outlet for free
Tbh I was replacing a busted outlet in my 1960s ranch and got the wiring completely backwards. This older guy walked by my open garage and asked if he could peek, said he was an electrician for 40 years. He spent 20 minutes showing me how to use a multimeter properly and why the neutral wire matters so much. Didn't take a dime, just asked me to pay it forward to someone else. Has anyone else had a random stranger stop and bail them out of a home repair mess?
Man, that's awesome. Old school trades guys are the best. They just know stuff and actually like helping people. I had a plumber do the same thing once with a leaky valve, talked me through it from his truck. No charge, just said "don't mess with the main line." Real ones still exist, just gotta catch them walking by.
