Why does nobody talk about how easy it is to mess up caulking a bathtub

I spent 2 hours redoing the caulk in my bathroom last weekend and realized I'd been wiping away the excess wrong for years. A guy at Home Depot in Akron showed me to use a plastic spoon instead of my finger, and it came out perfect the first try. Has anyone else had a simple tool trick that saved a DIY project?

The plastic spoon trick is smart. I use a popsicle stick for caulk because it's stiff and gives a clean angled bead every time. Once you get the right tool, you never go back to using your finger.

Wait, hold on, you use a POPSICLE STICK for caulk? Like an actual popsicle stick from a craft store or from eating a popsicle? Because I've been using those little plastic spoons from takeout containers for years now, and I thought I had it all figured out. But a popsicle stick is way stiffer and you said it gives a clean angled bead every time, that's genius honestly. I bet it doesn't flex as much as a spoon does when you're trying to push the caulk into a tight corner. I'm going to have to dig through my kid's art supplies next time I'm caulking something, I just hope I can find one that hasn't been licked clean already.
