Vent: My ceiling patch collapsed during a family dinner in Milwaukee last Sunday

I was finishing up a drywall repair in the dining room and thought the compound was fully set, but the whole patch dropped onto the table while we were eating. Turns out I didn't let the first coat dry long enough after a humid day. Has anyone else had a repair fail at the worst possible moment like this?

Oh man, "stared at the hole in disbelief" is exactly what I would've done. That reminds me of the time I was trying to fix a leaky pipe under my kitchen sink in my old apartment. I thought I had it all tightened up, so I put everything back and went to make coffee. Then I heard a drip...drip...drip. Turns out I didn't quite get the washer seated right. The whole cabinet flooded, soaked a bag of flour I had stored in there. Made a huge pastey mess on the floor. Had to explain to my roommate why there was doughy sludge everywhere.
