The nails I used to buy at Ace changed the way I frame pictures

I was at my dad's house last weekend helping him hang some shelves. He pulled out this old box of nails from his garage that he bought at Ace Hardware maybe fifteen years ago. They were these plain steel finishing nails that just worked way better than anything I grab at the big box store now. He told me he paid maybe four bucks for that whole box back then. I tried finding the same brand online after I got home but everything is coated or painted and costs twice as much. Has anyone else noticed how basic hardware has gone downhill or is it just me?
