Stop caulking your baseboards before paint, here is why

I redid my living room trim in Austin last month and watched a neighbor do the same job backwards. He caulked every seam first, then painted, and now the paint peels off the caulk within a year because the caulk shrinks. Paint first, then caulk over the painted seam, then touch up just the caulk line. I learned this after two failed rooms and $60 in wasted caulk tubes. Has anyone else had their paint crack along baseboard seams?
