Shoutout to the $60 moisture meter that saved my subfloor

I was about to lay new laminate in my basement and figured I'd grab a cheap pinless meter from Home Depot to check the concrete. Turned out two corners were reading 18% moisture, way over the 12% limit for the flooring. If I'd skipped that test, I'd probably be ripping it up in 6 months. Has anyone else caught a hidden problem with a simple tool like that?

My neighbor used one of those and found 20% moisture hiding under an old rug he never thought to check.

Yeah @markl75 that's the kind of thing that makes you wonder what else is hiding in plain sight. Glad I caught my issue before it turned into a headache too.
