Shiplap or beadboard for the hallway wainscot, I picked wrong at first

Last month I redid the hallway in my 1920s bungalow in Portland and had to choose between shiplap and beadboard for the wainscot. I went with shiplap because it looks cleaner in photos, but the gaps caught dust and the uneven plaster behind it made the lines look wavy. I ripped it all out and swapped to beadboard, which hides the wall imperfections way better. Has anyone else dealt with wavy walls forcing a paneling choice you didn't plan on?
