PSA: I spent 5 years painting my kitchen walls in the wrong order before a neighbor pointed it out

Was doing cut-in after rolling for years with lap marks everywhere until my 70-year-old neighbor Margaret watched me one Saturday and said 'honey you're supposed to cut in first and let it dry before you roll' - so which is it for you, cut-in first or roll first and why?

Read a blog post once where a pro painter said the exact same thing Margaret told you. Cut in first, let it dry, then roll. Makes sense when you think about it because the cut-in paint has time to set up and you're not dragging a wet roller over it. The lap marks are from the wet cut-in getting smeared by the roller, not from bad technique. That's probably why your walls looked like crap for five years no offense. Margaret sounds like a lifesaver honestly.

Wait, you had that same issue too? I painted my whole living room three times before I figured out it wasn't me just being bad at rolling. That dry cut-in makes a world of difference, and I wish someone had told me years ago. It's kind of a relief to hear someone else went through the same frustrating thing.
