My uncle called my caulk job 'lumpy' and I switched to a different size tube tip
I was running a bead along some baseboards last weekend and he pointed out how uneven it looked from across the room. Turns out I was using a standard tip on a big gap and the pressure was all wrong, so I trimmed a smaller opening and it came out smooth as glass. Has anyone else had a relative's offhand comment completely change their technique?

My dad told me my welds looked like bird droppings, so I stopped trusting his advice and got better on my own.

Honestly, sometimes the best way to learn is when someone's criticism stings enough to make you want to prove them wrong. Sounds like you turned a rough comment into motivation and actually leveled up your skills.
