My neighbor's one comment about my fence gaps saved me 40 hours

I was spacing my cedar fence boards with a 1/4 inch gap for airflow and this old carpenter walks over and says 'you're gonna be adjusting those for the next three years.' He was dead right. Switched to a 3/8 gap and let the wood breathe naturally, now I don't have to go back and shave boards down every season. Anyone else had a local expert call out something obvious you were missing?

Got a buddy who's a mechanic, and he had this old Ford that made a weird knocking sound for months. He took it to three different shops and nobody could figure it out. One day he's at a gas station and this old-timer just walks over, listens for maybe five seconds, and says "heat riser valve, stuck closed." My buddy replaced a $30 part and the truck ran perfect. @barbara_sanchez88, you're right that gut feeling from experience is worth more than a dozen YouTube tutorials sometimes. Your mileage may vary, but I've seen that kind of thing happen more than once.
