My neighbor watched me paint and told me to stop backrolling - best advice I got all year

Honestly, I spent a whole Saturday painting my living room ceiling with a roller and backrolling every section like I always did. My neighbor Bob came over to borrow a ladder and just stood there watching for a minute before he said "You're making more work for yourself, just lay it off and leave it alone." I was annoyed at first but he showed me how to just load the roller and do one smooth pass without going back over it. The finish came out way smoother than my usual textured mess where I kept disturbing the paint. Ngl it saved me about 2 hours on that ceiling and the coverage is actually better. Has anyone else had an old timer give you painting advice that totally changed your approach?
