Had to rip out a whole bathroom floor I put in 3 months ago

I tiled my main bath last summer and it looked perfect for like a month. Then the grout started cracking near the shower edge and tiles popped up in the corner. Turns out I didnt use a proper decoupling membrane under the tile and the concrete slab shifted just enough. Spent my whole Sunday with a hammer and chisel breaking out 40 dollars worth of tile. The worst part is my wife said I should've just used the cement board stuff from the start and I told her I knew what I was doing. Has anyone else learned the hard way that skipping a step in tile prep just comes back to bite you later?
