Finished painting my kitchen cabinets after 3 weekends... what a difference
I finally wrapped up painting my oak cabinets in the kitchen this past Sunday. They were that dated honey oak from the 90s and I just couldn't look at them anymore. I went with a warm white semi-gloss and spent about 14 hours total between sanding, priming, and two coats. The change is honestly wild, like a completely different room. I used a small foam roller for the flat panels and a brush for the corners, which made it look way smoother than I expected. The biggest pain was waiting for each coat to dry fully before flipping the doors around. Now I'm second-guessing if I should swap out the old brass hardware for something more modern. Has anyone else done a similar refresh and regretted the hardware choice later?

Does painting things white just make you notice everything else that's outdated?

Doesn't it, though? I painted my living room a crisp white last spring and now suddenly my twenty year old sofa looks like something from a thrift store reject pile. The curtains went from "fine" to "faded and frumpy" overnight. White is like a magnifying glass for everything you've been ignoring.
