Dropped $50 on a cheap drain snake and it snapped inside my pipe
Bought a plastic one from the hardware store to clear a kitchen clog and the cable twisted off in the line. Now I'm looking at a $300 plumber bill to fish it out. Anyone ever get a broken snake out themselves without calling a pro?

Man that sucks, but honestly I feel like half the time you can just leave it and forget about it. My neighbor had a similar thing happen with one of those flimsy ribbon snakes from the dollar store and the piece just got stuck in the trap under his sink. He didn't even notice for like six months until he moved out and the new owner found it while cleaning. The garbage disposal idea actually worked for my cousin though. She ran it with some ice cubes and it just chewed the plastic up into little flakes and flushed right out. No plumber needed.

Honestly, is it really that bad though? A $300 plumber bill for something that might just break apart with a little hot water and some time? Tbh, plastic snakes snap all the time and most of the time the piece just sits in the pipe and never causes a problem. Ngl, I'd probably just run the garbage disposal for a minute and see if that grinds it up or flush it with a bucket of hot water before I panic and call anyone.
