Bought a cheap paint sprayer for my kitchen cabinets and it cost me more in the end

I got a no-name sprayer for about $80 to save money on my cabinet project. It clogged every ten minutes and left a rough, uneven finish. I ended up having to sand everything down and buy a proper brush set, which set me back another $120. Has anyone found a sprayer under $200 that actually works for a full room?

My buddy's cheap sprayer ruined his whole project, so what's the point of saving a few bucks?

Not sure I fully agree here. In my experience, even decent cheap sprayers can work fine if you take the time to thin the paint right and clean them thoroughly after use. My buddy used a $40 HVLP from Harbor Freight on his kitchen cabinets, and it came out pretty good after he figured out the settings. Maybe your friend's issue was more about prep or technique than the tool itself.

Richard_ramirez is right about cheap tools costing more in the end. A bad sprayer wastes paint and time, which adds up fast. It's better to buy something decent once.
