Bought a $200 moisture meter before realizing my phone does the same thing

So I was prepping my basement for a bathroom remodel and got paranoid about hidden damp spots behind the drywall. Dropped $200 on this fancy pinless moisture meter from the hardware store in Akron, thinking I was being all professional about it. Turns out my phone has a built-in sensor app that measures surface capacitance well enough for basic checks, and my buddy at work showed me how to use it in five minutes. I probably could have done the whole job with that free app and saved myself a trip to return the thing. The meter is accurate and all, but for a one time project it was pure overkill. Anybody else burned cash on a tool they could have borrowed or just used their phone for instead?
