Appreciation post: my neighbor's old manual auger saved my backyard project last weekend
I was digging post holes for a new fence along the back line of my property, 6 holes total. About 3 feet into the second hole I hit a solid rock the size of a basketball. My electric auger just started smoking and gave up on me. My neighbor came over with this ancient manual auger his dad left him, and we got through all the rocks in about 2 hours. Has anyone else had better luck with manual tools than the fancy electric stuff?

...and then my dad goes "just use the post hole digger from 1975" and sure enough it worked, no batteries needed.

Three broken wrist pins in two years makes me side-eye that "old stuff lasts forever" idea pretty hard, @leo107. My dad's 1980s Milwaukee sawzall finally gave up the ghost after I replaced the brushes twice and it still burned out. Yeah, some old tools work fine for basic jobs but try digging a post hole in rocky clay with that 1975 digger vs. a modern one with a sharp blade and ergonomic handles.
