Vent: Too many people skip the spine glue step

I keep seeing rebinds on here where folks glue straight to the cover without checking the old spine first. I did that with a 1962 copy of The Hobbit from my local Goodwill in Portland, and the pages split clean off after about a month. The old adhesive has to be scraped down flat, no exceptions. Anyone else run into this with older mass market paperbacks?

Wait, you glued straight to the cover and the pages just split off after a month? That old 1962 glue would have turned to dust by now, no way it holds anything.
