The craft fair vendor mocked my hidden book pocket

Set up at the Maple Street market last Saturday and this lady selling journals scoffed at my magnetic book shelf, said it 'ruins the spine integrity.' Has anyone else gotten sideways looks for adding functional mods instead of just pretty covers?
