Switching to a bone folder instead of my fingernail saved my book hinges

I spent like 6 months using my thumbnail to crease hinges on repurposed hardcovers and wondered why my edges looked ragged. Then a guy at the craft store showed me his $8 bone folder and I saw how clean his creases came out compared to mine. Anybody else stubbornly use the wrong tool forever until someone straight up shows you the right way?

Bet you never tried using the wrong side of the folder either.

The whole "wrong side of the folder" thing is a great point. But I gotta ask, have you ever actually tried flipping it over and seeing what happens? I mean, not just once to be funny, but really tried to make it work? I've done it a few times when I was in a hurry and didn't want to stop what I was doing. It's not as simple as people say. The tension on the paper is all weird and you end up either ripping the crease or fighting the fold the whole time. So is it really just a joke or is there a hidden trick I'm missing?
