Spent 3 hours last Saturday carving a hidden pocket into a thrifted $4 copy of The Hobbit and sliced right through 20 pages
I was so proud of the little cutout too. Found the book at Goodwill in Boise for $4, measured everything twice, watched like six tutorials first. Then I'm going slow with the Xacto and I feel the blade dip and I just knew. Flipped it open and there's a clean slit through pages 88 to 107. I just sat there on my kitchen floor staring at it. My wife asked if I was okay and I said yes but I was not. Do you all cut in stages or pull the whole text block out first? Because clearly winging it is not my thing.
The old method of cutting the pages while they're still glued in is what got you, not the tutorials. Most people pull the text block out first or at least clamp the pages tight so the blade can't wander down. Three hours of work for a $4 book still stings though.
