Serious question, has anyone else fought with PVA glue drying too fast on a rebind?
Tried rebinding a 400 page fantasy novel last weekend and the PVA was tacky within 90 seconds. I was rushing to line up the spine cloth and it wrinkled so bad I had to peel it off and start over. Took me 4 tries and about 6 hours total just to get the cover on straight. Ended up mixing in a tiny bit of water to slow it down, but now I'm worried the bond won't hold. Has anyone found a trick for extending the open time without messing up the glue strength?
