I finally stopped fighting with edge painting after trying diluted acrylics

For months I was using straight craft paint to color the page edges on my paperbacks. The results were always streaky and the pages would stick together after drying. Last week I tried mixing the paint with like 30% water before applying it in thin coats. It took three passes but the coverage is smooth and the pages still flip normally. Has anyone else had better luck with watered down paint versus the straight stuff?

Straight paint works fine if you don't overdo the coats.
