Hot take: superglue is better than PVA for book spine repairs if you're careful

Everyone online says never use superglue on book spines because it gets brittle, but I had a 20 year old paperback splitting apart and PVA just wasn't holding it after 3 tries. I dabbed a tiny amount of gel superglue along the inside crease and clamped it for 10 minutes, and that spine has survived being thrown in my delivery bag for two months now. Has anyone else actually gotten good results breaking the 'rules' on glue types?

Wait wait wait, you threw it in a delivery bag for TWO MONTHS? Like with other stuff jostling around in there? That's insane. I can barely get a PVA repair to last through me putting a book in my backpack gently.

Put it in there with my laptop charger and a bag of pens for good measure. Honestly, I was testing to see if I could break it.
