Found out Mod Podge can yellow your white book covers in under 6 months
I was looking up ways to seal a custom painted cover on an old paperback and stumbled onto a forum post from 2022. Turns out Mod Podge has a known issue where it turns yellow over time, especially if your book sits in sunlight or near a window. I tested a small corner of my cover with it 8 weeks ago and sure enough, there's a faint yellow tint already. The same post mentioned using a matte acrylic sealer spray instead which supposedly stays clear longer. Has anyone else had their book mods get discolored from a sealer? What brand do you use instead?

Mod Podge is notorious for that yellowing thing, it's like the air fryer of craft supplies - everyone loves it until they see the damage. I've noticed a similar pattern with those cheap clear phone cases, they start out crystal clear and then go all yellow and gross after a few months in the sun. Same with those plastic window clings people use for holiday decorations, they get that weird amber tint after a season or two. Seems like anything with a glossy clear finish is just begging to turn yellow if it sees any UV light at all.

My workspace gets a lot of afternoon sun and I've had Mod Podge pieces looking fine for over three years now. The trick is using the Matte formula and not letting the project sit in direct sunlight all day every day. Most yellowing complaints come from people who skip the UV protective topcoat or leave things on a hot windowsill for months.
