Shoutout to the barista in Medellin who made me rethink my whole setup
I was working from this coffee shop in Laureles last week and got talking to the barista during a slow moment. She told me she'd been a nomad for 6 years but now only travels 3 months a year because she got tired of never having a real community. She said 'I was collecting countries but not relationships.' That hit different because I've been bouncing between cities every 4 weeks for almost 2 years now and I'm starting to feel the same way. Has anyone else found a way to balance the travel lifestyle with actually putting down roots somewhere?

Four weeks is basically sprinting through life, I say as someone who once packed up a whole apartment in 45 minutes because I found a cheaper flight to Hanoi. I did that six months in one place thing last year in Mexico City and it was the first time I actually knew my neighbor's dog's name. Still managed to mess it up though because I booked a trip every third weekend and basically treated my apartment like a storage unit. The balance is hard when you have that itch to see something new every time the laundry gets boring. But that barista was right about the relationship thing - I've got 47 phone contacts from different countries and maybe 3 people who'd actually help me move a couch.

Did you catch that article in Nomad Mag about people doing six months in one spot instead of bouncing every few weeks?
